Welcome
Susquehanna University is celebrating its sesquicentennial, the 150th anniversary of the institution's founding, with a 14-month celebration extending through the 2009 Commencement. It was a proud and historic moment for the Susquehanna community. More than 500 students, local alumni, faculty and staff came together April 30 to be photographed on Smith Field in the formation of SU 150. The idea was inspired by a photo taken during the university's 125th anniversary. Sesquicentennial festivities began March 7 at Carnegie Hall in New York City with a gala performance by the SU Masterworks Choir and Orchestra. A compact disc of the performance will be available later in 2008. Susquehanna traces its roots to September 1858, when the Missionary Institute of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Susquehanna Female College held their first classes. From its humble beginnings, the university has emerged as a national liberal arts college, attracting students from 30 states and 12 countries. Events throughout the celebration will honor the legacy of:
