Now, these guys are considerably more cute than the saltie! A baby Koala just about wakes up long enough to smile for the camera. These marsuipials spend most of their time sleeping or eating the leaves of gum trees (eucalyptus). These are often very tough leaves to chew resulting in much tooth damage and eventually in the death of the animals by starvation once the teeth have been destroyed. In captivity, they live about 12 years, as opposed to the 10 years in the wild, mainly because they eat better quality leaves! In some places, you can even have a cuddle with a koala.

A house in the forest. This is "Tentative Nests", a campground in the rainforest in Kuranda, north of Cairns. This is a unique experience complete with duckbilled platypus, and even a few leeches. We will most likely spend a night here. We had a local aboriginal guide (Milton) lead us on a night-time tour of the forest after dinner. Check out this menu! This is not your usual food.
