Current Projects
The Task Force on Diversity in the Curriculum is currently
working on several projects in an attempt to increase the awareness of
diversity both in the curriculm and on the campus in general.
Creation of Diversity Studies Minor: The
Task Force on Diversity in the Curriculum is currently working on creating
a full curriculm for the Diversity Studies Minor. The Task Force is concentrating
on determining which courses should be included in the minor As well,
the committee is examining what the exact requirements for the minor should
be.
Introducing "Conflict/Controversy"
to the Classroom: As a result
of the Diversity Studies Minor the Task Force has concluded that conflict
and controversy are needed in the classroom if ideas, especially about
diversity, are to be openly discussed. The Task Force is looking
to provide a workshop for Susquehanna's professors about the use of conflict
in the classroom and effective ways to increase the depth of discussions.
The workshop will hopefully take place at the beginning of next semester.
Increasing Availability of Diverse
Reading Materials: A constant
underlying goal of the Task Force is to increase the amount and availability
of material on diverse topics. Recently the Task Force decided that
some of these materials should be housed together in order to make them
more accessible. Materials are currently being collected and a location
for their placement is being determined. The Task Force hopes
that these materials will be utilized by the Susquehanna University community.
The Task Force is also always
looking for ways in which they can increase the level of diversity in the
curriculum and potential projects are always being sought after.
Notable Past Projects
The Task Force is always attempting
to better the Susquehanna University community by providing diversity within
the curriculm. However, some projects have made quite large impacts
on the campus and deserve to be mentioned.
Diversity Studies Minor: The
creation of the Diversity Studies Minor was the focus of the Task Force
for the '98-'99 academic year. The program was approved in late February
1999 and has been in place since the beginning of the '00-'00 academic
year. After receiving approval for the minor the Task Force created
an introductory course for the program. The addition of a minor was
a major accomplishment for the Task Force.
