Mission of the Diversity Studies Minor Program
The diversity studies minor was created to complement various majors by examining the impact that diversity has on all aspects of life. The purpose of the minor is to examine
issues of diversity that go beyond the traditionally addressed areas of
socioeconomic class, gender, race, and ethnicity. These areas include
age, religious orientation, disability, and sexual orientation.
The goals of the diversity studies
program are to (1) to enable students to achieve awareness of multiple
perspectives, diverse populations, and the theoretical foundations and
language of diversity studies, (2) to enable students to acquire knowledge
about the several aspects of diversity, and (3) to help students apply
that knowledge in their lives, whether in the workplace, their personal
lives or their roles as citizens.
Requirements for Diversity Studies

The minor consists of 24 semester hours, including DS:100 Introduction to Diversity Studies (four hours); the capstone course, DS:400 Diversity Encounters for a Changing World: Models of Impact (two hours), and 18 semester hours selected from courses in the women's studies program, the Jewish studies program, or other courses approved by Diversity Studies.
