They are due April 3rd. The candidates for the 2009-2010 SGA Executive Board are President: Brian Gilbert and Eddie Hubbard, Vice-President: Andrew Steele, Treasurer: Molly Knapsack, and Secretary: Maggie Bell Susquehanna is currently discussing the idea of implementing a co-curricular transcript to document students' extracurricular activities in the future. Please email sga@susqu.edu with any comments regarding this decision. The Gender and Sexuality Alliance will be sponsoring a speaker, Kate Bornstein, on April 19th. She is an American author, playwright and gender theorist and all are encouraged to attend. SGA meetings are held every Monday at 7 pm in Seibert 108. OLD BUSINESS Meeting: March 16th, 2009 - 7pmThe 30-hour famine will be taking place next Tuesday March 24th. Participants are to meet at noon at the fountain. Mid-week lenten will be occuring every Wednesday through the end of lent at 4:15 on Weber Stage. There are still lenten devotionals available in the office at Weber Chapel. The Class of 2010 will be sponsoring a letter writing party to government representatives in Charlie's on April 15th. The Class of 2011 is hosting a pool party in the Garrett Sports Complex on April 19th from 6-9 pm. The Freshman Class mall shuttle will not run this Sunday the 22nd! The candidates for the SGA executive board will be speaking at the SGA meeting on Monday March 23rd. SGA meetings are held every Monday at 7 pm in Seibert 108. Meeting: March 9th, 2009 - 7pmMike Coyne, VP for Finance and Treasurer, came to the meeting on Monday to discuss the tuition for next academic year and to answer questions relating to the tuition. Kyle Robertson '11 was elected to serve as a Board of Trustees Liaison for SGA. Congratulations Kyle! Congratulations to SU Paranormal for being officially recognized as a club! Welcome to Kevin Bleistein who was sworn in as a senator to represent the class of 2012. The SGA Referendum was passed-thank you to all those who voted. A majority of the SGA Senate will be attending the POSSE retreat this weekend in Harrisburg. They will partake in an intensive weekend focused on diversity at Susquehanna. Meeting: February 23rd, 2009 - 7pmThe SGA Budget Seminar on Saturday was a huge success! Thank you to all clubs and organizations who attended. The Rene Hicks show was a hit on February 23rd! Thank you to all who attended and assisted with the event! There were 22 people who used TRAXportation for the Mardi Gras Party. Meeting: February 9th, 2009 - 7pmThe Student Government Association is excited about its $50,000 contribution towards the new science building and will be recognized for sponsoring the resource center in the biology department on the second floor of the building. Thank you to those who came out to executive board office hours at Charlie's last week! On February 10th, SGA will be hosting an organization roundtable in the Meeting Rooms at 5:30. This is for any Presidents or Exec. Board members of any campus organizations who would like to discuss being a leader on campus. There were 49 people who used TRAXportation last Friday. Don't forget to use it again this weekend. There were 308 people who filled out the ARAMARK survey - thank you! Thank you to those who came out to the Organization Roundtable on Tuesday. The turnout was great, and we look forward to providing more resources to clubs on campus in the future. The freshman class has completed its class project and will begin service to Walmart and the Susquehanna Mall via shuttle bus on select weekends, starting after spring break. Meeting: February 2nd, 2009 - 7pmThe Senate approved an amendment stating the SGA executive board elections will take place on the 2nd Tuesday following Spring Recess. They will last a full 48 hours and candidacy notifications will be sent via email. The Senate passed an amendment stating that class officer elections from Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors will occur the Tuesday before the last SGA meeting of the semester. The Senate approved an amendment that Freshman Senator elections will take place one week after the Freshman class officer elections. Thank you to everyone who used Traxportation this weekend. We had a total of 91 people who utilized Traxportation! Traxportation will be available again this weekend for a safe, warm ride to TRAX! Tuesday February 9th, SGA will be hosting an organization roundtable for all organization executive members or anyone who wants to learn about running an organization and being a leader. It will occur at 5:30 pm in the Model Classroom Seibert 108. Congratulations to the following new senators: Kelly Kalpa ’10, Stephen Maganzini ’11, and Jonathan Fellin ’12. The SGA executive board will have office hours every day from 3:30-4:40 in the SGA office located in the lower level of Deg across from Charlie’s. SGA is sponsoring a Senior Convocation on January 30th at 7:15pm in Evert Dining Hall. Any senior interested in taking part in the Senior Convocation is encouraged to e-mail alumni@susqu.edu ASAP to reserve their spot.
Meeting: January 12th, 2009 - 7pmAt their first meeting of the semester, the Senate approved financial support for Traxportation, the free shuttle service that provides transportation to and from all campus-wide Trax events. Traxportation will begin on Saturday, Jan. 17th. The Senate passed an amendment requiring all SGA recognized clubs to submit their Club Recognition Forms no later than the third week in the fall semester (unless an appeal is made) in order to receive SGA funds for the year. The Senate voted for the Religious Society of Friends to become a SGA recognized club. SGA encourages all members of the Susquehanna community to attend the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Convocation and attend a service project on Monday by e-mailing volunteer@susqu.edu ASAP. SGA also encourages all students to consult the Sustainability Guide on the Center for Civic Engagment's website for tips on how they can reduce their carbon footprint and make SU a greener place to live.
Meeting: December 2nd, 2008 - 7pmAt their final meeting of the semester, the Senate passed a resolution proclaiming their commitment towards a new trust document, invested in the SWIFT Program of which the interest will go towards scholarship opportunities for the cross-cultural experience requirement of the new central curriculum. Student Government Announcement - November 12th, 2008The Student Government Association asks our fellow students to join us in denouncing the recent acts of racial discrimination that have taken place on our campus. Please work with us to make this a safe, comfortable, and welcoming place for everyone. Meeting: November 10th, 2008 - 7pmThe Senate voted on and failed to pass an amendment to the SGA constitution that would raise the GPA requirement for Senators from 2.5 to 2.8 and raise the Executive Board GPA requirement from 2.5 to 3.0. The Senate discussed possible uses and investments for the Trust Fund. In addition, Class Officers gave reports on the progress of their class projects. Students are encouraged to contact their Senators with any questions or suggestions they have, specifically those related to the new central curriculum for SU students. The Senate will be meeting with Provost McMillin to discuss the new central curriculum and these questions will be addressed. Meeting: November 3rd, 2008 - 7pmThe Senate discussed a possible amendment to the SGA constitution to raise the GPA requirement for senators from 2.5 to 2.8. In a future meeting, the Senate plans to discuss the new central curriculum for SU students. Students are recommended to e-mail their senators about any questions or concerns they have regarding this new curriculum. SGA's Election Day Events were a huge success. The Voter Vehicle shuttle service was used by more than 150 people on Super Tuesday. In addition, the Election Day Party in Trax was well received with over 200 students in attendance. Meeting: October 20th, 2008 - 7pmThe Senate approved minor amendments to the SGA constitution and approved a proclamation in support of the Sesqucentennial Celebration of the 2008-2009 academic year. The Senate is considering providing a monetary donation for the new science building.
There will not be a meeting next week. The next SGA meeting will be on November 3rd at 7pm in Seibert 108. Meeting: October 6th, 2008 - 7pmThe Senate approved a resolution calling for a new position, Special Assistant to the President and Chief Diversity Officer, to be added to the university. President Lemons named junior Devin Kittrell as the student representative to the search committee. The Senate approved financial support for the SU Ice Hockey Club. The Senate congratulates vice president, Brittany Bunting, who was named Homecoming Queen during the Homecoming weekend festivities. In addition, SGA took first place in the Homecoming float competition. Meeting: September 29th, 2008 - 7pmNext meeting, the Senate will be voting on a resolution concerning the implementation of a Chief Diversity Officer position at Susquehanna. Meeting: September 22nd, 2008 - 7pmAt the first meeting of the semester this year's class officers, liaisons and senators were sworn in and accepted the responsibilities of their positions. |
