Eck, Strohl Named First-Team Academic All-District
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna University seniors Jason Eck and Bryan Strohl have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District II College Division Football team, as voted upon by members of CoSIDA and released Thursday. Eck (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock) and Strohl (Akron, PA/Ephrata) were both named to the first team and advance to the national ballot along with three other Middle Atlantic Conference players. The national Academic All-America team will be announced December 1. To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a starter with a 3.2 or higher cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve. Eck, the Crusaders' starting fullback for the past four years, ranks seventh in the MAC in rushing with 588 yards on 121 carries (4.9 average) and 13 touchdowns. He holds the program career record with 45 rushing touchdowns and is second with 2,217 yards in his career. Off the field, Eck is a finance major with a 3.42 cumulative grade-point average. He is president of the Hispanic Organization for Latino Awareness (HOLA), the Investment Club, Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honor society and Phi Sigma Iota international foreign language honor society. Eck is a member of the Omicron Delta Epsilon international economics honor society and Theta Chi fraternity, and interned at Goldman Sachs in New York during the summer of 2004 and has been offered full-time employment by the firm after graduation. Strohl, who has started at tight end for the past two seasons, has made five catches for 53 yards this season and has carried five times for 43 yards, while playing a key role on the Crusaders' special teams. Off the field, Strohl is an elementary education and early childhood education major with a 3.99 cumulative grade-point average. He has made the Dean's List every semester, is treasurer of Kappa Delta Pi education honor society, is a mathematics tutor in stats and calculus, and is vice-president of Phi Sigma Iota international foreign language honor society. In addition, Strohl is past president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council and Alpha Lambda Delta freshman honor society and was a member of the Middle States Taskforce for Assessment. The District II College Division consists of all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
