SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna University senior fullback Jason Eck has been selected as the team's Gus Weber Crusader Player of the Week, sponsored by the Golden Corral Family Steak House along Routes 11 & 15 in Shamokin Dam.

Eck (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock) carried 13 times for 64 yards and two touchdowns as the Crusaders scored 29 unanswered points en route to a 43-19 victory at Ursinus in the season opener on Saturday.

Eck scored the Crusaders' first touchdown on a 1-yard plunge on fourth-and-goal early in the second quarter, and added a 15-yard scoring run midway through the fourth quarter to boost the Crusaders' lead to 36-12.

The two touchdowns increased Eck's career total to 34 rushing touchdowns, just three shy of the program record of 37 set by Matt Wichlinski from 1996-98. He also moved into ninth place on the Susquehanna career rushing list with 1,693 yards.

The Golden Corral will donate a check for $100 in the name of Eck to the charity of his choice during Friday's Quarterback Club luncheon at noon in the Apple Community Room of the Garrett Sports Complex on the Susquehanna campus.

Now in their eighth year of sponsorship of the Gus Weber Player of the Week award, Golden Corral has donated $6,400 to charity in the names of Susquehanna players.

The Player of the Week award is named after former Susquehanna University president Gustave Weber , who served as president of Susquehanna for more than 18 years and was a former standout player at Wagner College . He was an avid booster of Crusader athletics, and in particular the football team, which he coached for the final two games of the 1965 season.

The Crusaders (1-0 overall, 0-0 MAC) host Widener on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Lopardo Stadium as part of Susquehanna's Homecoming celebration.
