Edwards Named Gus Weber Crusader Player of the Week
SELINSGROVE, PA – Susquehanna University sophomore halfback Anthony Edwards has been selected as the team's Gus Weber Crusader Player of the Week, sponsored by the Golden Corral Family Steak House along Routes 11 & 15 in Shamokin Dam.
After carrying just once for three yards in the first half, Edwards broke loose for 75 yards in the second half including an 18-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter to pull the Crusaders within 28-14. For the season, Edwards is second on the team with 308 yards on just 49 carries (6.3 average) with four touchdowns, and is tied for third on the team with six receptions for 26 yards and a score. The Golden Corral will donate a check for $100 in the name of Edwards to the charity of his choice during Friday's Quarterback Club luncheon at noon in the Shearer-Weber Dining Rooms in the Degenstein Campus Center on the Susquehanna campus. Now in their eighth year of sponsorship of the Gus Weber Player of the Week award, Golden Corral has donated $6,900 to charity in the names of Susquehanna players. The Player of the Week award is named after former Susquehanna University president Gustave Weber , who served as president of Susquehanna for more than 18 years and was a former standout player at Wagner College . He was an avid booster of Crusader athletics, and in particular the football team, which he coached for the final two games of the 1965 season. The Crusaders (3-3 overall, 2-3 MAC) travel to King's (2-5 overall, 2-4 MAC) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
