Men's Soccer to Host "Battle of the Boot"

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – In what has become one of the most intense men's soccer rivalries in the Middle Atlantic Conference, Susquehanna will host Lycoming in the fourth annual “Battle of the Boot” on Friday at 7 p.m. in the first night game held at the new Sassafras Field.

Both teams will enter the contest undefeated as the Crusaders sport a 3-0 record for the first time in program history, while the Warriors are 2-0. Neither team has allowed a goal this season, while each has received dominant offensive performances from their top players to date.

Susquehanna sophomore Nate Snyder has scored seven of the Crusaders' nine goals this season, including hat tricks against Scranton and Chowan, while Lycoming's Jeff Kocher has tallied five of the Warriors' six goals on the year, including a three-goal game against Neumann.

In goal, Crusader junior Nick Hoover has recorded two shutouts in as many starts and was named Commonwealth Conference Goalie/Defender of the Week, while the Warriors' Jason Fesler earned the same honor in the Freedom Conference after also posting two shutouts last week.

The teams were declared co-champions of last weekend's Lycoming Kickoff Classic after defeating Chowan 4-0 and Neumann 2-0 in their respective games.

The “Battle of the Boot” is played for a bronzed and mounted soccer shoe and was first contested in 2001, with the Crusaders winning the trophy in each of the first two seasons by identical 2-1 scores.

Last season, Lycoming captured the Boot for the first time with a dramatic 2-1 overtime victory in Williamsport to snap a four-game losing streak to Susquehanna overall. The Crusaders hold a 20-14-3 advantage in the all-time series with the Warriors.
