Swaney Earns National Special Teams Honor
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna University junior kicker Dwight Swaney has been named the NCAA Division III National Special Teams Player of the Week by Don Hansen's Football Gazette following his performance in Saturday's 49-35 loss at King's. Swaney (Mifflinburg, PA/Mifflinburg) went 5-for-5 in extra points to extend his streak of consecutive conversions to 20, and averaged 43.5 yards on six punts against the Monarchs. His first three punts covered 51, 47 and 50 yards with no returns while his final punt of 38 yards came after he leaped to corral a bad snap. In addition, Swaney executed two onside kicks to perfection as the Crusaders recovered both following fourth-quarter touchdowns. Earlier this week, Swaney was honored as the Middle Atlantic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season. For the season, Swaney leads the MAC and ranks 16 th in Division III with an average of 38.9 yards per punt, and is 29-of-32 on extra points for the Crusaders (3-4 overall, 2-4 MAC). The Crusaders return to action next Saturday with a 1:30 kickoff at Albright (5-2 overall, 4-2 MAC).
