Women's Soccer, Volleyball in Commonwealth Finals

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna University women's soccer and women's volleyball teams will seek their first-ever conference championships as both squads will compete in the Commonwealth Conference finals on Saturday.

The Crusader women's soccer team plays at No. 3 Messiah at 4:00 p.m. while the volleyball squad travels to No. 1 Juniata to battle the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. The winner of each contest will receive an automatic bid to its respective NCAA Division III tournament.

Admission to both events will be $4.00 for adults, $3.00 for seniors and $2.00 for students with children under 6 admitted free.

In women's soccer, Susquehanna (14-4-1 overall) advanced to the championship game for the second time in three years with a 3-1 victory over Elizabethtown in Wednesday's semifinal, while the Falcons (17-0-1) defeated Albright 5-1 in the other semifinal.

Messiah, which is seeking its fifth straight conference championship, defeated the Crusaders 3-0 in the 2002 title game and downed Susquehanna 2-0 in last year's semifinals. The Falcons beat the Crusaders 3-0 in the teams' regular-season meeting on Oct. 26 and have won the last 11 meetings between the schools, including 10 by shutout.

In volleyball, the Crusaders (21-10 overall) knocked off host Elizabethtown in five games in Wednesday's semifinals to move into the championship game against the Eagles (31-3), who swept Lebanon Valley to move one step closer to their 24 th straight conference title.

Juniata defeated Susquehanna in three games in the teams' regular-season meeting on Oct. 26, and the Eagles have won 66 consecutive games against Commonwealth opponents since a 3-1 win over Messiah during the 2002 season.
