Football Earns MAC Honors

SELINSGROVE, PA – A trio of Susquehanna University football players were recognized by the Middle Atlantic Conference following the Crusaders’ 24-16 victory over Ursinus in the season opener at Lopardo Stadium on Saturday night.

Senior kicker Dwight Swaney was named the MAC Special Teams Player of the Week for the third time in his career while junior running back Anthony Edwards and sophomore linebacker Tim Sela were selected to the Honor Roll as the Crusaders overcame a 13-0 third-quarter deficit to earn the victory.
Swaney (Mifflinburg, PA/Mifflinburg) connected on a go-ahead 38-yard field goal with 3:13 remaining in the fourth quarter to give the Crusaders a 17-16 lead, and also punted five times for an average of 37.6 yards per punt.
Edwards (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks West) ran for 125 of his career-high 135 yards in the second half, including a game-clinching 21-yard touchdown run with 1:04 remaining. He also had a career-long 57-yard run in the third quarter that set up Susquehanna's first touchdown.

Sela (Lindenhurst, NY/St. Anthony's) started at linebacker in his Susquehanna debut and finished with a game-high 11 tackles (7 solo), two of which were for loss along with a half-sack, as the Crusaders held the Bears under four yards per carry on 35 rushes.
