Swaney Named MAC Special Teams Player of the Week
SELINSGROVE, PA – Susquehanna University senior kicker Dwight Swaney has been named the Middle Atlantic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season and the fourth time in his career, the MAC office announced Sunday.
Swaney (Mifflinburg, PA/Mifflinburg) recorded the best average in a single game for a Susquehanna punter over the last 25 years as he averaged 47.4 yards on five kicks in Saturday’s 21-16 loss at FDU-Florham, highlighted by a career-long 68-yard punt in the first quarter that was the longest for the Crusaders since 1998. Three of his punts were downed inside the 20 including a pair inside the FDU-Florham 10-yard line.
In addition to his punting, Swaney booted a 30-yard field goal in the second quarter to cut the Devil lead to 14-3, converted his 13th extra point of the season without a miss in the third quarter, and executed an onside kick which the Crusaders recovered while trailing 21-16 late in the fourth quarter.
For the season, Swaney is averaging 36.7 yards on 43 punts with 12 downed inside the opponents’ 20-yard line.
The Crusaders (2-6 overall, 1-6 MAC) host Wilkes on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
