Edwards, Gibboney Gus Weber Crusader Players of the Week

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – After earning Middle Atlantic Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively, Susquehanna University junior halfback Anthony Edwards and senior free safety Ben Gibboney have been named the team's Gus Weber Crusader Co-Players of the Week, sponsored by the Golden Corral Family Steak House along Routes 11 & 15 in Shamokin Dam.

Edwards (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks West) recorded the seventh-highest single-game rushing total in school history with a career-high 187 yards on 31 carries and three touchdowns on runs of 1, 3 and 49 yards, piling up 122 yards on 14 carries in the second half alone.

Edwards, who surpassed 1,000 career rushing yards in the game, ranks fourth in the MAC in rushing with a career-high 483 yards on 96 carries (5.0 average) along with five touchdowns.

Gibboney (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon Area) was named MAC Defensive Player of the Week for the third time in his career after making 11 tackles and his 12 th career interception while leading a Crusader defense that allowed just 240 total yards to Juniata, which ran just three offensive players from inside the Susquehanna 20-yard line.

The Golden Corral will donate checks for $50 in the names of both Edwards and Gibboney to the charity of their choices during Friday's Quarterback Club luncheon at noon in the Shearer-Weber Dining Room in the Degenstein Campus Center.

Now in their ninth year of sponsorship of the Gus Weber Player of the Week award, Golden Corral has donated $7,700 to charity in the names of Susquehanna players.

The Player of the Week award is named after former Susquehanna University president Gustave Weber , who served as president of Susquehanna for more than 18 years and was a former standout player at Wagner College. He was an avid booster of Crusader athletics, and in particular the football team, which he coached for the final two games of the 1965 season.

The Crusaders (2-3 overall, 1-3 MAC) travel to Widener on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
