Samuel Named Director of Athletic Facilities
SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Susquehanna University director of athletics Pam Samuelson has announced that Arlene Samuel has been hired as assistant women's soccer coach and director of athletic facilities through the NCAA's Division III Ethnic Minority and Women's Internship Grant Program. Samuel is a native of Brampton, Ontario and a 2005 graduate of Iowa State University with a bachelor of science degree in sports management. She will assist seventh-year head coach and two-time Commonwealth Conference Coach of the Year Jim Findlay with the Crusader women's soccer program, which won a school-record 14 games in 2004. "We are pleased to be able to offer Arlene the opportunity to enter the highly competitive field of athletic administration," said Samuelson. "Arlene's experience at Iowa State, both as a student-athlete and administrative intern, will be a positive asset to our department and University community." Samuel was a four-year starter on defense for the Cyclones from 2000 to 2003 and scored six goals in 75 career games. She was named the team's Most Valuable Player as a freshman and was the recipient of the team's Consistency Award in 2002 and the Iron Woman Award in 2003. In addition to playing soccer at Iowa State, Samuel was employed by the university's ticket office as a student assistant during the summers of 2003 and 2004 and as an intern since January 2005. Samuel also was a member of Vortex, Iowa State's student-athlete leadership program, and was involved with the Special Olympics and the Relay for Life. As director of athletic facilities, Samuel will coordinate and oversee scheduling and management of Susquehanna's indoor and outdoor recreation areas, including the Garrett Sports Complex and Sassafras Field.
