Jim Reed Named Women's Basketball, Women's Golf CoachSELINSGROVE, Pa. Susquehanna University has named Jim Reed head women's basketball and head women's golf coach, director of athletics Pam Samuelson announced Thursday. He replaces Liz Cranmer Briggs, who resigned last month to become the head women's basketball coach at Division II Merrimack University. Reed has served as head women's basketball coach at Wilkes University since July 2001, compiling a 27-71 record with the Lady Colonels including a 12-13 mark in 2002-03. He is no stranger to Susquehanna, having served as an assistant women's basketball coach under Mark Hribar for three seasons from 1989-90 through 1991-92, and as a men's assistant under Frank Marcinek for two seasons from 1992-93 through 1993-94. During his previous stint at Susquehanna, Reed also served as an assistant baseball coach from 1991 through 1994 and was the school's women's tennis coach during the 1993-94 season. We are extremely excited to have Coach Reed back on campus, said Samuelson. He is a tireless recruiter and an excellent game-day coach. I know that his efforts will yield positive results in continuing to build both our women's basketball and golf programs. Reed is a 1985 graduate of Bucknell with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering, and worked as an engineer for four years before pursuing a career in coaching. After leaving Susquehanna, Reed was an assistant men's basketball coach at the University of Indianapolis in 1994-95, and was an assistant girl's basketball coach at Indian Valley High School for three seasons from 1995-96 through 1997-98. In 1998, Reed returned to Bucknell as assistant women's basketball coach and helped the Bison to a then school-record 20 victories in 2000-01 before moving to Wilkes. Reed is a native of Reedsville, Pa. and is a 1981 graduate of the former Kishacoquillas High School, where he was a three-sport athlete and was team MVP in basketball as a senior. At Bucknell, Reed played one season of football as a defensive back and lettered twice in track and field. Reed will make his Crusader debut on Friday, Nov. 19 against Manhattanville in the Pepsi/Weis Markets Tip-Off Tournament at O.W. Houts Gymnasium.
