Kelsey, Davitt Sweep Conference Defensive Honors
SELINSGROVE , PA – Susquehanna University senior goalkeeper Austin Kelsey and sophomore defender Kelly Davitt have been named the Commonwealth Conference Defensive Players of the Week in men's and women's soccer, respectively, the conference office announced Monday.
Kelsey (Benton, PA/Benton) posted a pair of shutouts as the Crusaders finished with a 1-0-1 record in the River Classic Tournament, defeating Penn State Altoona 1-0 in double overtime on Saturday and playing Gwynedd-Mercy to a 0-0 tie on Sunday.
Kelsey made a total of 12 saves in the two matches, spanning 217 minutes of action, for his 10 th and 11 th career shutouts.
Davitt (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon) scored her first career goal on a long blast with 12:21 remaining to lift the Crusaders to a 1-0 victory over Alfred in the opening game of the River Classic Tournament on Saturday afternoon, then helped lead a Crusader defense that allowed just three shots in a 3-0 win over Alvernia on Sunday.
With Davitt on the field for all 180 minutes of the tournament, Susquehanna allowed a total of six shots at goal in their two wins.
The Crusader men (1-0-1 overall) will host Lycoming in the sixth annual Battle of the Boot on Friday at Sassafras Field, while the Susquehanna women (2-0-0 overall) will travel to Eastern on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
