Women's soccer to play inaugural River Derby
SELINSGROVE, PA – The Susquehanna women's soccer team will be playing its first ever River Derby against the Lycoming Lady Warriors on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Sassafras Sports Complex.
The Crusaders have always had a rivalry with the Warriors (2-0). The men's teams play annually in the Battle of the Boot. Lycoming's first year coach, Joe Balduino, decided he wanted to start a tradition within the women's soccer program.
Susquehanna head coach Kathy Kroupa agreed, “I thought it was a great idea since the game is always so competitive anyway.”
The Crusaders (2-0) had two strong opening matches this past weekend with wins over Alfred and Pitt-Bradford and will look to continue its winning streak by bringing home the first River Derby cup.
“We have had a long standing game with Lycoming and it is always one of the best games of the year for both teams,” Kroupa said.
