Shaffer Named Second-Team Academic All-District in Softball

SELINSGROVE, Pa.– Susquehanna University sophomore shortstop Sarah Shaffer has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II Softball College Division second team, as voted upon by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and released Thursday.

Shaffer (New Castle, PA/Shenango) was a second-team All-Commonwealth Conference selection after she led the Crusaders in batting average (.398), runs scored (23), triples (3), runs batted in (15), total bases (48), slugging percentage (.516), on-base percentage (.447) and stolen bases (5) while starting 28 games at shortstop.

A two-time conference Player of the Week this season, she ranked second in the Commonwealth Conference in batting average, second in on-base percentage, fifth in slugging percentage and tied for seventh in runs scored.

Academically, Shaffer is an English/secondary education major with a cumulative 3.74 grade-point average. She is a member of the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship worship team, co-editor of Stance, a campus journal of freshman academic writing, public relations manager for the Phoenix Project, which works with area at-risk middle school students to improve their academic, social and emotional needs, and a member of the Dean's List every semester.

The District II College Division consists of all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.

To be nominated for the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 or higher cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
