Susquehanna to Host Commonwealth Softball Tournament

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna University's Sassafras Field will be the host site for the two-day Commonwealth Conference Softball Tournament, which begins Friday morning at 11 a.m. and concludes Saturday afternoon.

Four-time defending conference champion Moravian is joined by Lebanon Valley, Messiah and Albright in the double-elimination tournament. Daily admission to the tournament is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for students, with an all-session pass available at $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and $4 for students. Children under 6 are admitted free.

Moravian (31-6) is led by junior pitcher Meagan Hennessy , who led the conference in wins (24), earned run average (0.52), innings pitched (200) and strikeouts (234) during the regular season. As a team, the Greyhounds lead the conference in batting average (.316), earned run average (0.74) and fielding percentage (.971).

Lebanon Valley (26-10) has battled the Greyhounds tough over the last two years, winning 2-1 in last year's championship round to force a final game and splitting this year's regular-season doubleheader behind a 1-0 one-hitter by Kelly O'Toole . The pitching staff has recorded 11 shutouts this season including six by sophomore Jenn Roberts (15-1).

Messiah (14-20) overcame a 1-7 start to the season and a six-game losing streak at midseason to earn the third seed in the conference tournament. Freshman Lana Trotter is one of the top two-way threats in the conference as she hit .349 with nine doubles, 20 runs batted in and 15 stolen bases while going 6-6 with a 1.71 earned run average in 18 games.

Albright (21-13) is led by junior Ashley Young who threw five shutouts in nine starts against Commonwealth Conference opponents and went 6-2 with a 0.62 earned run average in league competition. Overall, she batted .364 with four home runs and 22 runs batted in while junior Meridith Hippert led the conference in batting (.412) and RBIs (36).
