Nastelli Named Commonwealth Pitcher of the Week
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – For the second time this season, Susquehanna University senior righthander Jess Nastelli has been na med the Commonwealth Conference Pitcher of the Week in softball for the week ending April 16, the conference office announced Monday.
Nastelli (Berwick, PA/Berwick) threw 15 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run in three Crusader victories last week. She tossed a one-hit shutout as the Crusaders edged Messiah 1-0 in the opener of their doubleheader on Thursday, as she struck out three and walked two and retired the final 13 batters she faced after allowing just a triple in the first inning.
Earlier in the week, Nastelli struck out a season-high 10 batters over 8 1/3 innings and allowed no earned runs in what eventually was a 5-4 Susquehanna victory in 10 innings.
For the season, Nastelli is 8-2 with a 1.04 earned run average in 13 games, and has 10 complete games in 11 starts. She has struck out 60 batters and allowed just 47 hits in 81 innings of work while holding opponents to a .162 batting average.
The Crusaders (19-7 overall, 7-3 Commonwealth ) host Lycoming in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Sassafras Field.
