SELINSGROVE, PA – The Susquehanna University men's golf team will compete at the Commonwealth Conference championships at the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort this weekend, with action in the 54-hole event beginning Saturday morning and concluding on Sunday afternoon.

The Crusaders have won 10 conference titles, but are seeking their first championship since the 2004 season. More significantly, the conference champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships held May 15-18 in Indiana , an event in which the Crusaders have played six times previously (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003).

Susquehanna enters the conference tournament on a torrid streak, winning three consecutive tournaments while shooting under 300 in each event. In all, the Crusaders have broken the 300 mark four times in nine rounds this spring after doing so twice in eight rounds during the fall.

Leading the Crusader lineup is junior Pat Serfass (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus), who leads the team in stroke average at 73.6 shots per round. He finished sixth in the conference last year after tying for 18 th as a freshman.

Junior Scott Cruff (Newington, CT/Newington) returned to the lineup in March after studying abroad in the fall and is averaging 77.3 shots in nine rounds this season including two rounds of 69. Cruff placed sixth in the conference as a freshman and fifth last year, and has a career average of 76.0.

Junior Brock Christine (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) has competed in all 17 rounds this spring and has an average of 79.6 shots per round, with a season best of 71 on two occasions. He finished tied for 23 rd at last year's conference meet after tying for 12 th as a freshman, and has a career average of 80.5.

Freshman Mitch Mercer (Wexford, PA/Pine-Richland) has turned in a strong rookie campaign, ranking second on the team with a 76.9 average while winning the Moravian Fall Invitational with a round of 69, while fellow freshman Zach Prowant (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock) has turned in an average of 79.4 shots in 16 rounds this season, with a best round of 74 on two occasions.
