Keating, Lepley Named Academic All-District in Track and Field
SELINSGROVE , PA – Susquehanna University seniors Patrick Keating and Emily Lepley were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team in track and field, as voted upon by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced Thursday.
Keating was a first-team selection on the District II College Division men's team while Lepley was a second-team choice on the women's side. By earning first-team honors, Keating advances to the national ballot along with first-team honorees from the seven other districts in CoSIDA.
Keating (Pottsville, PA/Nativity BVM) was a three-time medalist at the Middle Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track and Field championships, finishing second in the hammer throw at the 2006 and 2007 championships and second in the shot put at the 2005 championships.
He was also a three-time second-team All-MAC performer, placing sixth in the triple jump at the 2006 and 2007 championships and sixth in the shot put at the 2006 championships.
Keating, who was also honored by the MAC as its Scholar-Athlete in outdoor track and field, holds the Susquehanna school indoor records in the shot put and weight throw, and medaled in the weight throw at the MAC Indoor Track and Field championships in 2006 and 2007 and in the shot put at the 2005 championships.
Academically, he maintained a 3.82 cumulative grade-point average as a finance major, and was a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma National Business Honor Society as well as a recipient of the Ruth Steininger Memorial Scholarship for excellence in accounting or finance.
A Dean's List student every semester, Keating was involved with the Investment Club, Student Activities Committee and Habitat for Humanity. He interned with the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development's Office of International Business Development in each of the last two summers.
Lepley (Lewistown, PA/Lewistown) is the most-decorated athlete in Susquehanna athletics history, earning All-America honors eight times in her career. She was a three-time All-American in both the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Division III Outdoor championships and was a two-time All-American in the 55-meter hurdles at the Division III Indoor championships.
In addition, Lepley was a three-time MAC outdoor champion in both the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles, and was a three-time winner in the 55-meter hurdles and a two-time champion in the 400 meters at the MAC indoor championships.
She was the MAC Athlete of the Year at the 2005 outdoor and 2007 indoor championships, and was recognized as the NCAA Mideast Regional Track Athlete of the Year in 2005 after winning the NCAA Division III championship in the 400-meter hurdles. In all, Lepley graduated holding five individual school records in additions to three records as part of relay teams.
Academically, she maintained a 3.23 cumulative grade-point average as an English/secondary education major, and was a two-time member of the Dean's List and a Dean's Scholarship recipient while also participating in the Study Buddy program at Selinsgrove Intermediate School .
