Four Crusaders on Landmark Spring All-Academic Team
SELINSGROVE, PA – Four Susquehanna University student-athletes are among the 32 honored with selection to the 2008 Spring Landmark All-Academic Team. Juniors Jeffrey Brooks (Cogan Station, Pa./Meadowbrook Christian)
and Patrick Donegan (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) from the men's track and field team, senior Ashley Moormann (Stanhope, NJ/Pope John XXIII)
from the women's track and field team and junior Shelby Werronen (Concord, Ohio/Riverside) from the women's tennis team were Susquehanna's selections.
Brooks helped Susquehanna to a runner-up finish at the Landmark Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He placed seventh in both the 800 and 1,500 at the championship meet. Brooks is on the All-Academic Team for the third time in his junior year. He's working towards a degree in accounting and was also a Landmark Academic Honor Roll pick for all three seasons in 2007-08.
Donegan completed a strong all-around junior year by helping Susquehanna place second at the Landmark Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He placed in the top eight in both hurdles events at the meet to earn points for the Crusaders. He also was a key contributor for the Susquehanna men's soccer and swimming teams during the year. Donegan is majoring in psychology.
Moormann capped a memorable career by being named the Landmark Women's Field Athlete of the Year at the Landmark Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She won two events at the meet and was third in two others. Moorman was named the Landmark Women's Indoor Track Senior Scholar Athlete and earned a degree in early childhood and elementary education. She also earned the Connie Harnum Award as the top senior female scholar-athlete.
Werronen was a standout on the court and off for the Susquehanna women's tennis team. Playing only in the fall season, she recorded a singles record of 5-4 in singles competition to go along with a 2-1 mark in doubles play. The junior accounting major studied abroad during the spring season, but has also earned conference academic honor roll status during her career.
Two male and two female athletes from each of the eight Landmark institutions were selected for the team, which honors athletes who have excelled athletically and academically. Nominees could compete in any of the Landmark spring sports and must be a sophomore or older with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
The Landmark Conference sponsors baseball, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's tennis, softball, and men's and women's outdoor track and field during the spring season.
The Spring All-Academic Team features 17 seniors, 12 juniors and a trio of sophomores. In addition, all eight spring sports sponsored by the Landmark Conference are represented with at least one student-athlete. The Landmark Conference selected an All-Academic Team for each of the three athletics seasons during the year.
