Effler Named First-Team All-Conference
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna University senior center Matt Effler was named first-team All-Commonwealth Conference in men's basketball as voted upon by the league's eight head coaches and released Tuesday.
 Effler (Rye Brook, NY/Blind Brook) led the Crusaders with averages of 14.9 points and 8.4 rebounds per game while shooting 60 percent (147-for-245) from the field to rank fourth in the Commonwealth Conference in all three categories.
The Crusaders finished 10-15 overall and in a tie for fifth place in the Commonwealth Conference with a 6-8 league mark under 17 th -year head coach Frank Marcinek.
A two-time conference Player of the Week (Jan. 23-29 and Jan. 30-Feb. 5), Effler ranked third in the league with seven double-doubles and scored in double figures 21 times in 25 games, including five games of 20 points or more.
Effler's season total of 210 rebounds is the most by a Crusader player since Jim Dimond pulled 242 boards during the 1988-89 season.
Among his top performances of the season were a career-high 29 points in a 78-67 victory at regular-season conference champion Widener on Jan. 28, and a 23-point, 11-rebound effort capped by the game-winning basket in an 81-79 overtime win at Wilkes on Jan. 8.
In two seasons at Susquehanna after transferring from Muhlenberg, Effler averaged 10.9 points and 6.6 rebounds in 47 games, scoring 512 points and grabbing 311 rebounds while shooting 59.7 percent (209-for-350) from the field.
Widener senior center Kris Clarkson was named conference Player of the Year with Lebanon Valley guard Kyle Enoch earning Rookie of the Year honors. Widener head coach Dave Duda was honored by his peers with the Coach of the Year award.
Joining Effler on the first team were Clarkson, Albright senior forward Trevor Deeter, Messiah senior forward Zach Wiernicki, Lebanon Valley junior guard Jimmy Curran and Messiah junior forward Jared Yoder.
