Men's Basketball to Face Navy
SELINSGROVE, PA – For the first time in nearly 16 years, the Susquehanna University men's basketball team will face a Division I opponent when the Crusaders travel to Navy on Thursday.
Tipoff at Alumni Hall is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., and the game will be aired live on WQSU-FM (88.9) beginning at 7:15 with Jack Burns and Jim Miller on the call. The broadcast can also be heard online at wqsu.com.
The Crusaders have not played a Division I team since a 75-38 loss at Princeton on Jan. 29, 1990. Susquehanna has lost its last seven games against Division I foes since a 75-55 victory over Lehigh on Jan. 4, 1983 at O.W. Houts Gymnasium.
Susquehanna (2-7) is led by 6-8 senior center Matt Effler, who ranks among the top 10 in the Commonwealth Conference in scoring (14.0 points per game), rebounding (9.9 per game) and field-goal percentage (60.0 percent).
The Midshipmen (4-5) have won four of their last games including a 73-64 win at Brown last Thursday. Navy has already defeated a Division III opponent this season, topping Washington ( Md. ) 106-80 on Dec. 18 in Annapolis . Sophomore guard Greg Sprink leads the Middies in scoring (12.6 points per game) and is shooting 97 percent from the foul line.
