Crusader Men Second, Women Fourth at Landmarks

KING'S POINT, NY -- The Susquehanna University swimming and diving teams fared well at the inagural Landmark Conference Championships this weekend, with the men finishing second and the women fourth. Senior Jeff Fornadley (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey) was the men's Co-Swimmer of the Year and freshman Joe Scheno (Berwick, Pa./Central Columbia) was named Rookie of the Year.

In Sunday's action, Fornadley picked up his third individual gold, this one in the 100 freestyle. He was also on a fourth first-place relay team, joining Scheno, Jeff Kormanik (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) and Alex Thurstlic (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley) to take gold in the 400 freestyle relay.

Thurstlic also took an individual win in the 200 backstroke, while Rich Brinker (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme) came in fifth. Scheno added a third-place finish in the 100 freestyle and Derek Wolf (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) and Jeff Gorcyca (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) took fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 200 breaststroke. Freshman Alex Willcox (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) touched in second in the 200 butterfly. Senior Andrew Lyon (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) earned himself a silver place finish in the 1650 freestyle touching in 17:12.88, while Liv Thran (Dalton, Pa./Abington Heights) took third in 17:13:32 and Alex Willcox (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) finished fourth in 17:16.38.

The Crusader women were just 23.5 points out of third place, led by the Sunday efforts of freshmen Lauren Snyder (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) and Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom), who finished third and fifth in the 200 backstroke to start the day.

Sophomore Melissa Gilpin (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) was second in the 200 butterfly and senior Lindsey Moretti (Alfred, N.Y./Alfred-Almond) added a sixth place in the 200 breaststroke. The 400 freestyle relay team of Snyder, Amanda Kane (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua), Julie Yingling (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) and Cristina Los (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) finished fourth.
