SELINSGROVE - " Elementary school children can get a taste of college life this summer during Susquehanna University's Third Annual Summer Kids' College. The summer camp is open to all students who have completed grades 2-5. It is designed to challenge campers academically and help them develop their creative, critical thinking and cooperative learning skills through a series of high-interest, complex topics.

The morning Kids' College session will be held July 14-18 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. daily. The three-session package includes the workshops Puzzles, Problems and Predicaments; Time Travel: Back to the Days of Knights and Damsels; and Survival! The cost of the three-session package is $175 per student.

In Puzzles, Problems and Predicaments, students will use the creative problem solving process, experience a wide variety of instant challenges and sharpen their skills in engineering, design and the creative manipulation of materials.

Time Travel: Back to the Days of Knights and Damsels will transport students to medieval times for castle construction and catapult competitions with many rich, hands-on opportunities to experience this period of history.

Survival imagines the students shipwrecked on a desert island, and not alone. The group is tasked with finding a way off the island, with only their wits and a barely-functioning two-way radio.

Students also will have the option of continuing their day at camp to explore an afternoon special interest topic. The afternoon session, including a brown bag supervised lunch, costs $65 and will be held from 12:45 to 3 p.m. daily.

Afternoon sessions will include Project Funny Bone!, a cartooning workshop with Selinsgrove native and professional cartoonist John Gallagher, creator of the Buzzboy comic series; or Culinary Capers, a unique opportunity offering campers a nutritional culinary experience in a safe environment.

All sessions will be held on the campus of Susquehanna University. Because of the interactive nature of the activities, sessions are limited to 16 campers each. Scholarships are available.
