How To Record Your Audition Material
Please read these instructions carefully!
- At the beginning of his or her audition each student should say the following:
“My name is ___________________________. I go to _____________________ High School in (City)________________, (State)__________. I play the (instrument)_________________.
- Please perform the scales in the order they are listed and as close to the metronome markings as possible. End with the chromatic scale if required. Announce each scale before you play it. For example, you would say, “G major scale.” Then you would play the G major scale.
- Following the scales, play the excerpt or piece for your instrument in the order that they appear. Try to observe metronome markings as best you can. Announce each excerpt before you play it. Simply say “Excerpt 1” for the first excerpt and “Excerpt 2” for the second excerpt if there is a second excerpt.
Play each scale starting on the written pitch (not concert pitch). Tongue up the scale and slur down the scale as the example shows. Use the rhythm shown unless you have been working on extended scales with your director or private teacher. Refer to the scale page link for rhythm, tempo marking and scales required for each instrument.
Play as triplets. Tongue up the scale and slur down the scale as the example shows. Use the rhythm shown. Refer to the scale page link for rhythm, range and tempo marking required for each instrument.
Listen to your completed recordings before submitting them. Incomplete auditions will be disqualified!
