Wind Ensemble Institute

Members of the High School Wind Ensemble
Susquehanna University offers a unique summer performance experience for high school students.  The university reviews audition recordings and invites 54 gifted woodwind, brass and percussion players to campus for the Wind Ensemble Institute.  This week-long, residential program focuses on chamber music and symphonic wind ensemble performance. Students work with Director of Bands Eric L. Hinton, Ph.D., HonFBC, as well as other distinguished Susquehanna faculty members.  High school students entering grades 9-12 in the fall of 2013 are invited to apply. Selection is competitive.

Comprehensive Fee:

  • $510 if application and audition recording are postmarked on or before March 1.
  • $560 if application and audition recording are postmarked on or before April 1.
  • $610 if application and audition recording are postmarked after April 1.

Applications will be accepted until all sections are filled.

A limited number of need-based and merit-based scholarships are available. Students must apply by April 1 to receive consideration for these discounts.

Students may audition on one of the instruments:

  • Flute
  • Oboe
  • Clarinet
  • Bassoon
  • Saxophone
  • Trumpet
  • Horn
  • Trombone
  • Euphonium
  • Tuba
  • Percussion (must audition on two of the following: timpani, snare drum or mallet percussion)
