Travel Writing in South Africa
Memoirist Glen Retief has developed a course which involves taking students to his native South Africa, where they spend two and a half weeks visiting local villages, learning about history, culture, and cuisine, and then writing literary travel essays.
Watch a video where Glen talks, among other things, about what it means to him to be able to offer this particular course. Also, listen to an audio essay where Glen talks about the adventures he had with students in January 2011, flailing up a sixty-degree mudslide, joining a Xhosa initiation dance, and being reprimanded by an irritated chief.
