McMillin joined the faculty at Susquehanna University in 1989. A medieval historian, McMillin’s research focuses on the lives of religious women in this period. She also writes on the topic of faculty work and professional identity. She has authored more than 20 articles, in both English and Spanish, and edited two books, A New Academic Compact: Re-visioning the Relationship Between Faculty and Their Institutions with Jerry Berberet (Anker Press, 2002) and Hrotsvit of Gandersheim: Contexts, Identities, Affinities and Performances with Katharina Wilson and Phyllis Brown (Toronto University Press, 2004). McMillin received an American Council on Education Fellowship in 2000–01. She was also a recipient of the Fulbright-Hays Fellowship/Spanish Government Grant for doctoral research in Spain, 1988–89.
