As a member of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Benjamin Zander, he was part of the BPO’s critically acclaimed Carnegie Hall performances of Mahler and Bruckner symphonies and the Philharmonic’s recording of The Rite of Spring. Other professional experience includes performances with the Boston, Rhode Island, Virginia, Portland (Maine) and Williamsport (Pa.) symphony orchestras; Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra; Boston Lyric Opera; and the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra. Henry has also performed with many contemporary artists, including Aretha Franklin, Harry Connick, Jr., Olivia Newton John, Natalie Cole, Gladys Knight and the Pips, The Temptations and The Four Tops.
Henry has been the director of the trombone studio at Susquehanna University since 1995. As host of SU’s Fall Festival O’ Bones, he has collaborated and performed with the U.S. Naval Academy Trombone Quartet, Michael Davis, Matthew Guilford, Matt Niess and the Capitol Bones, Jim McFalls, and James Nova. Henry also teaches instrumental music in the Williamsport (Pa.) Area School District. His arrangements of trombone ensemble music are published by Wehr Music and he is a clinician for SmartMusic and Finale products.
Most recently, Henry has been arranging music for and playing lead trombone in Spencer and the T-Bones—a funk, soul, rock and R&B group that features a horn-section consisting of three trombones and a bari sax. Spencer and the T-Bones can be seen on YouTube and, coming soon, at spencerandthetbones.com.
