Peeler is a molecular biologist who focuses on the role of the extracellular matrix in regulating gene expression. He and his students study how Schwann cells, which play a key role in nerve myelination, differentiate in response to changes in the extracellular matrix. Recent presentations include “The effects of cell surface protein knockdown on Schwann cell migration and morphology” and “The effects of rho inactivation on Schwann cell cytoskeletal morphology in culture.”

He teaches Genetics, along with upper-level courses in Molecular Biology and Histology, and a biology course for non-majors. He is a member of the American Society for Cell Biology.
