Kubota likes to write computer programs to process digital images and videos. He is involved in a number of projects in these areas, including computer-aided diagnosis with medical images, surveillance with a video camera, and remote sensing with satellite images. He also likes to tinker with neurons in the brain and develop a computer model to simulate their activities. His works have been supported by NSF, ONR, and NASA, and resulted in over 40 publications in journals and international conferences. He regularly engages students in his research and helps them present their results at international and regional conferences. Prior to joining Susquehanna, he was at the Siemens Medical Solutions, Malvern, Pa., working as a scientist. He also spent a number of years at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, S.C., as a researcher and an assistant professor. He regularly teaches calculus, statistics and various computer science courses.
