Pomykalski teaches courses in Database Systems Analysis and Design, Global Business Perspectives, Simulation Models and Information Systems Strategy; he has also taught Writing & Thinking. He served as the lead faculty member for Global Business Perspectives, a course taught to all freshmen business students each fall, for two years. In addition, Pomykalski serves as the director of the University Honors Program and teach the Honors Thought and Capstone courses.

He has published several articles in the area of pedagogical issues related to the improvement of the interpersonal skills of business and information students in information systems. In these articles, he has the stressed the need for and the use of student writing as a tool for learning; the majority of this writing is through business memos. Pomykalski has also authored papers on the development and use of decision support systems—namely expert systems, and the application of simulation. His other research focuses on the policies and uses of concerning data and information systems in organizations and their impact on decision-making.
