Job Shadowing Program
The SWSB Job Shadowing Program provides an opportunity for students to learn about a particular business career and obtain guidance from SU business alumni. The program goes beyond exposing students to specific jobs or industry sectors; the program’s greatest value is in building relationships that facilitate future career planning.
The program matches a student’s major or business interest with the career field of an alumnus. The student “shadows” the alumnus at the workplace. The goal is for the student to experience a typical business day and thereby gain some insight into the volume and variety of issues and projects confronting a business career of interest to the student. The business person would share information about the particular job and the decision-making process used for various issues that arise during the student’s visit.
Ideally, the job shadow experience will develop into a relationship whereby the student would be encouraged to periodically follow up with questions about business issues, career planning, and other business-related matters. The goal is not only for the student to learn about a particular business environment but to build a relationship and obtain guidance and wisdom from their assigned business person.
Participation
The program is primarily directed at matching sophomore business majors and SWSB alumni. Business students in other years and local business people may also participate if matching opportunities are available.
