Lopez teaches courses on international security, international organizations and law, and Soviet and Russian politics, as well as the department’s survey course, World Affairs.

Lopez’s research focuses on issues of counterinsurgency and peacekeeping. She is the author of “Engaging or Withdrawing, Winning or Losing? Comparing Counterinsurgency Policy in Afghanistan and Iraq” in Third World Quarterly and numerous conference papers. With Steven F. Jackson, she is writing an introductory textbook, International Relations: A Case Study Approach.
