Makse's teaching and research interests include elections and voting behavior, state politics and policy, legislative politics and political parties. He also teaches the introductory American politics course and research methods. His current research interests include attitudes toward representation, the causes and consequences of yard signs in residential neighborhoods, party strategy in legislative elections, the reform of redistricting institutions, and innovation in criminal justice policy. His research has been published in The Journal of Politics, Legislative Studies Quarterly, American Politics Research, Election Law Journal, and PS: Political Science and Politics.
