DeMary teaches courses on public law and legal studies, American political institutions and women and minorities in politics, in addition to the introductory course American Government and Politics. She is the university’s prelaw advisor and a coach for the Mock Trial Team. She advises Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society, and serves as the Speaker of the Faculty. She currently serves as the Head of the Department of Political Science.

DeMary’s research focuses on the question of separation of powers in actions of state courts, particularly the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. She is the author of “Legislative-Judicial Relations on Contested Issues: Taxes and Same-Sex Marriage” in Judicature and of numerous conference papers on state supreme courts, advisory opinions and the separation of powers. Her chapter on the federal courts appears in The Top Ten Things You Should Know About American Politics (Pearson, 2011).
