Literature and English Secondary-Ed Major
Students in the literature track have multiple leadership opportunities that enhance their learning experiences here at Susquehanna. The possibilities for professional development rival those offered in many graduate schools around the country, as our English majors present papers at national and international conferences (recently in Greece, Ireland, and England), work with professors as research or teaching assistants, publish their work in journals produced by the department and elsewhere, and help plan our annual undergraduate literature conference.
For students interested in teaching careers after graduation, Susquehanna offers a state certified major in English-secondary education, and we actively advise our students who are so inclined to pursue graduate education in literature. Since our students have the rare advantage of having been instructed in how to plan and run a college course as undergraduates, they have a better chance of being awarded scholarships to graduate schools.
