McLaughlin joined Susquehanna in the fall of 2010. Prior to his current appointment, he was a classroom teacher for 13 years. He currently teaches in the Early Childhood Education program leading toward PK-4 certification. His courses include The Sciences, Early Childhood Science Methods, Preschool Math Foundations, and Elementary Math Foundations. He supervises student teachers placed in local classrooms and is acting faculty counselor for the Susquehanna chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, the international honor society in education.

McLaughlin's research interests include preservice teacher preparation and access to educational opportunity. His recent scholarship includes:
