Hick specializes in aesthetics, particularly as it overlaps with metaphysics and ethics. One of his central research interests is in philosophical questions about intellectual property, and he is published in a variety of both philosophical and legal journals, including the Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism, the British Journal of Aesthetics, Philosophy Compass, and the Journal of the Copyright Society of the USA. As well, he has contributed to a number of philosophical and cross-disciplinary anthologies, and is the author of Introducing Aesthetics and the Philosophy of Art (2012, Continuum).
