Music Education in Spain
This GO Short Program whisks students away to Las Rozas de Madrid, Spain, for a truly once in a lifetime learning experience. Students will have the opportunity to visit and interact with Spanish school and university students a several contrasting sites. Our students will have the opportunity to deliver music instruction and perform in the following settings:
- Escuela de Musica y Danza, Las Rozas de Madrid, a municipal music service
- Gredos San Diego, Las Rozas, a cooperative educational institution for grades K-12 that offers music instruction in the classroom, as well as after school
- Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, which is the only university in Spain that offers a degree in music education. Here students will have the opportunity to shadow Spanish students in music education as they navigate their student teaching assignment.
Location: Las Rozas de Madrid, Spain. Day trips to Madrid, Toledo and Segovia
Dates: May 13-28, 2013
Prerequisites: To qualify for this course students must be enrolled in the music education. Secondary preference will be given to early childhood/elementary education program at SU. Some Spanish language skills are preferable but not required. There are also pre-departure meetings, required readings and self-reflections.
Academic Credit: Two semester hours, this program and accompanying course satisfy the GO requirement.
Majors of Interest: Open to music education majors. Secondary preference will be given to early childhood/elementary/secondary education majors.

Cost: $4,950 includes all flights, accommodations, activities and some meals.
Financial Aid: Need-based financial aid may be available for students satisfying the GO requirement
