Practicums
A practicum, similar to an internship, is a supervised experience that allows a student to gain practical knowledge of a subject previously studied theoretically.
Susquehanna students gain clinical experience through practicums at major medical centers, private health care facilities, local school districts, law enforcement agencies and community organizations. Recent practicum placements have included:
Community Services Group
– Acute Partial Hospitalization Program
– Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program
– Workabilities Clubhouse
Geisinger Medical Center
– Children’s Hospital
– Psychiatric Inpatient Service
– Ronald McDonald House
Geisinger Health System
– Child Advocacy Center
School districts’ guidance departments and school psychologists
Programs providing in-home family therapy
Juvenile probation offices
Drug and alcohol treatment programs
In addition, service learning has been incorporated into some of our educational and developmental psychology courses, giving students the unique opportunity to work with diverse groups of children in local schools and day care centers.
