Martin joined the faculty at Susquehanna University as director of bands in 1994 and also served as the primary clarinet and saxophone studio professor. In addition to her degree work, she studied clarinet and conducting as an International Rotary Scholar at the Mozarteum Conservatory of Music in Salzburg, Austria. Martin has performed with numerous bands and orchestras as a clarinetist, and as a conductor she has appeared with honor/festival bands in Alabama, Louisiana, Maine, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Virginia.
Martin has served as president of the Pennsylvania Collegiate Bandmasters Association, and in 2002, she was inducted into Phi Beta Mu, the international band fraternity that honors outstanding band directors. She was designated Member Laureate in 2004 by the Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity for achieving international distinction in the profession.
Martin served as the head of the Department of Music at Susquehanna University from 2001 to 2004, as dean of the School of Arts, Humanities and Communications from 2004–12, as is currently associate provost and dean of the School of Arts and Sciences.
