Dent taught for three years as the fiction writer at Shippensburg University before arriving at Susquehanna with her partner, Silas Zobal. She advises the Susquehanna Review and the Forum for Undergraduate Student Editors (FUSE) and teaches fiction workshops and other courses in literary expressions.

Dent's short stories can be read online in Drunken Boat, PANK, and the Portland Literary Review, and her print publications include work in Harvard Review, North American Review, Crab Orchard Review, Louisville Review, The MacGuffin, Echolocation, and elsewhere. She co-wrote a chapter on short fiction in Creative Writing Guidebook, edited by Graeme Harper. Dent serves on the editorial board of the online journal Trillium and is a past editor of Harpur Palate. Current projects include a novel, The Ghost Diaries, a creative nonfiction book about through-hiking the Appalachian Trail, Polyester, and an untitled murder mystery featuring two runaway girls. Other interests include contemporary and historical literature written by women, and questions of originality and origins.
