Whitman specializes in the teaching of ethics, applied ethics and epistemology. He also teaches courses in logic. He is the author of The Power and Value of Philosophical Skepticism as well as a large number of professional articles on a variety of philosophical topics. As a retired military officer, he has a special interest and expertise in the field of just war theory.
