Rodgers' research interests include second-language acquisition (particularly classroom-based acquisition of Italian), language teaching methodology (particularly content-based instruction), as well as Italian language and culture. He has published articles on content-based instruction in The Modern Language Journal, on automatization in second language acquisition in IRAL, and on the acquisition of verb morphology in Italian in L2 Journal. He has also contributed as co-author to the workbook to accompany the first-year Italian textbook Avanti!
