Summer Internship:
Box office intern, Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art
How I landed the internship:
My art history professor, Ashley Busby, brought the internship to my attention and advised me through the course of the semester in compiling an application packet, including a cover letter, résumé and writing samples. After a Skype interview with the MASS MoCA box office manager, I was offered the position.
How SU has prepared me:
The art history classes that I have taken at Susquehanna University have prepared me to speak critically and with insight about art, which is exactly what I do on a day- to-day basis at MASS MoCA. I can use my knowledge gained through art history classes at Susquehanna to offer insight into contemporary art and the future of the art world.
The biggest surprise:
My biggest surprise has been how much I’ve fallen in love with MASS MoCA. Everyone who works there is so passionate about their job and it’s not surprising that I feel the same way now. The museum atmosphere is fun and exciting and unlike any other museum. I feel so blessed to have been chosen for this internship because it turned out to be the perfect one for me.
What I gained from the experience:
The experience that I gained through interning at MASS MoCA is invaluable. After doing everything from working alongside renowned contemporary artists to helping to put together a Blue Grass festival, I feel as though the art world is much more accessible to me. The opportunity cemented my passion for the arts and the work that I plan on pursuing in it.
Plans after graduation:
After graduating from Susquehanna in May 2013, I plan on continuing to pursue art history in a graduate-level setting.
